ANNOUNCEMENT RE RACING AT WOLVERHAMPTON – 4th & 5th June 2016

25Apr

It is with regret that we relay that Wolverhampton Racecourse have notified the Promoters in the last week that the long planned refurbishment of the hotel at Dunstall Park is to commence the last week in May and continue until the middle of July. During that period the hotel, including the Main Entrance and the restaurant, will be completely closed.

This will mean that the carefully planned two day fixture (4th & 5th June) which was to include evening entertainment will be compromised somewhat. All hotel bookings have been transferred to the Novatel Hotel, approximately two miles away (WV1 3JN). The management have assured that the special rates offered will be honoured and an arrangement will be made with their regular taxi firm for transport between the racecourse and the Novatel.

Faced with the dilemma of whether to forge ahead with the racing, the promoter after much deliberation, has decided to go ahead so that the fixture does not become another loss to the racing season. Consideration has been given to reducing the racing to a one day event, but again plans have been made and schedules set and advertised, so racing will remain over two days.

Stabling is available at the racecourse and bookings can be made – 07825 800762. There is however very limited accommodation in the Lesters Groom quarters which will now have to be limited to one room per trainer/groom.

The promoters have been assured that the bars and food outlets will be open at the racecourse. Racing is planned to commence on Saturday at 5.30pm and Sunday at 2pm. The track will be open for jogging at set times during the day, but the track will need to be clear at least one hour prior to racing to allow for the track to be re-instated.

Races planned include Maiden/Novice, Low and High Grades, STAGBI sponsored Broodmares Pace, Oakwood Stud sponsored 3YO Pace, The Colin Barrington FFA, four Le Trot races to include the Malcolm Ali Memorial Trot as the Saturday night finale, Wellfield Stud sponsored 4YO Pace, a six furlong sprint sponsored by Doyle Air Cargo and a leg of the Battle of the Big Guns on Sunday.

Sponsors have come forward to get behind this fixture for which Shane and Claire are very grateful as the costs of the fixture are very high. It is hoped that the big screen will be in operation to facilitate improved viewing for spectators. Boxes are available for private hire – these to be booked directly through the racecourse on 01902 390000.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
