Coalford Tetrick
A stellar Free For All horse who set two new Track Records at Amman Valley in 2017 and also equalled the Track Record at Portmarnock. An ultra-consistent competitor
Evenwood Sonofagun
5yo son of The Firepan, winner of three Grade 1 races, setting new Track Records and a World Record, plus ended the season as the joint winner of the Crock of Gold taking his winning streak to a straight 15 (11 of them in 2017 making him Leading Horse by number of wins)
Miraculous
Horse & Pacer of the Year plus Leading Horse in 2016, Miraculous added the Crock of Gold and the ‘Big Gun’ title to his CV in 2017, plus 1½ mile Track Record at Tir Prince. 10 victories in his first season after his juvenile campaign is no mean feat.
Mare of the Year

Dontstoptheparty
From 13 starts this Dreamfair Vogel/Party West mare was placed 10 times. She was the victor in a leg of the Oakwood Stud Mares Pacing Series at Corbiewood and won the final of the series in August
Greentree Serenity
Winner of 4 races, including the Appleby Spring Sunday handicap and a victory at York in 1.58.2. With 9 top three finishes she is a tough mare
Jessies Conquest
3yo Filly of the Year in 2016, Jessies Conquest mastered four victories in 2017 including the BHRC Sire Stakes 4YO Mares and the Breeders Crown 4YO Mares
Meldoon
A 4yo daughter of Doonbeg, Meldoon was the victor in the highly competitive Grade 1 Welsh Classic Heat & Final. Unplaced in only 1 out of 9 starts.
Rhyds Passion
Recorded 5 wins and 5 seconds from 12 starts in 2017. Started the season as a Maiden and progressed to winner of the Red John Memorial at Musselburgh, a heat of the Blossom Kelly at York in 1.59.7 and runner up in the Welsh Classic Final at Tregaron.
Shades of Grey
Victorious in 3 races in 2017, beaten only by a short head at Musselburgh by Miraculous. A great season for a 9yo Grade 12 mare.
Trotter of the Year
Equilea Du Hauty
A filly that was imported as part of the Le Trot 3YO Series for 2017. Raced at Ceredigion, Tregaron and Tir Prince she won 5 out of her six starts. One of which included the Le Trot 3YO Series Gold Final, the richest race for Trotters in Great Britain to date
Sulky Du Blequin
From 5 starts in 2017, Sulky won the 1 mile Roosevelt and the 1½ mile George Dixon Memorial both at Tir Prince, and was placed 2nd at Musselburgh and Pikehall. His season unfortunately ended early in August due to injury.
T’es Trop Foot
Raced 6 times, this 10yo gelding finished the season with a run of 3 straight victories on three different surfaces; Almeley, Wolverhampton & York.
3YO Colt of the Year
No Brakes
Winner of some noble races in both the juvenile and open sectors; SHRC 3yo at Corbiewood, a heat of the Breeders Crown at Tir Prince, a heat of the Blossom Kelly Memorial at York, the Little Welsh Dragon Final at Tregaron and Heat and Final of the Joe Murdock Memorial at Corbiewood. 12 top 3 finishes from 17 starts in the season.
Rhyds Rockstar
Winner of a host of juvenile races in 2017; NWHOA 3YO colts at Tir Prince, Breeders Crown Heat & Final at Tir Prince, Bells Field 3YO Grass Championship, Sire Stakes and the Top Notch Colts Derby. He won his first two races at York early in the season and a heat of the Appleby Spring Sunday Handicap, finishing second in the final.
3YO Filly of the Year
Lyons Lememay
Placed in all 10 of her season starts, this daughter of Lyons Danny was first up in many juvenile races – NWHOA 3YO fillies, Breeders Crown fillies, Oakwood Stud 3YO at Portmarnock and the Little Welsh Dragoness at Tregaron. In her last start she was placed second in the Top Notch Fillies Derby.
Rhyds Mystique
2yo Filly of the Year 2016, Mystique carried successes into her 3yo campaign year. Outside of the top 3 only once during the season she was victor in a heat of the Appleby 3YO (3rd in final), York Major 3YO Fillies Heat & Final, Ceredigion 3YO, Barney Joyce Memorial 3YO at Portmarnock, a heat of the Breeders Crown Fillies (4th in Final) and the Sire Stakes Fillies.
2YO Colt of the Year
DKs Happy Forever
This lightly raced Soulofthematter home-bred, won his Maiden in June at Corbiewood, finished 3rd in 2YO races at Musselburgh and Corbiewood and was the victor in the Group 1 Colts Futurity at Tir Prince.
Matticulous
Winner of 6 out of 9 starts, and placed second in the other 3, this colt was at the forefront of the majority of juvenile stakes – Ceredigion 2YO, Sire Stakes Colts, Breeders Crown Colts Heat & Final and the most prestigious in the Vincent Delaney Memorial Heat & Final at Portmarnock
Merrington Movinup
Five victories in 2017 came in the Appleby Spring 2YO, the York Raceway 2YO, a Heat of the Breeders Crown Colts and the Junior Welsh Dragon. He was also placed second in the Breeders Colts Final and a Heat of the VDM at Portmarnock.
2YO Filly of the Year
Greenhill Hanover
A Bettors Delight/Artaffection filly who had a four race winning streak – the Junior Welsh Dragoness Heat & Final at Tregaron, the Group 1 Fillies Futurity and the SHRC Futurity. She was placed in her first 5 starts of the season in the NWHOA 2YO, the Ceredigion 2YO, a VDM Prep race and the Vincent Delaney Fillies Heat & Final – never out of the top 3 all season.

Any horse that has connections to an IHRA registered owner or trainer in the relevant season can be nominated under this category
Porterstown Chris
A regular visitor, this 6yo son of Doonbeg is a consistent Free For All performer. Winner in 2017 of the Anthony Russell Memorial FFA at Tir Prince in 1.58.4. He also competed at Ceredigion, Musselburgh and in the Crock of Gold at Tir Prince.
Robyn Camden
Winner of the NWHOA 2YO at Tir Prince and Ceredigion 2YO Fillies. At Portmarnock she was the victor of a VDM Prep race and the Vincent Delaney Memorial Fillies Heat & Final Champion recording sub two minute performances in both these last two races. Unbeaten during 2017.
Southern Sunshine
Owned and bred in West Cork, this lightly raced 7yo competed in the Boughrood races finishing second in a heat and third in the final and went on to win the Strata Florida Heat & Final at Tregaron
White Flame
Winner of a Maiden Pace at Tir Prince in 1.59.8, he went on to win a Grade 1 Pace at Ceredigion and a Heat of the Red John Memorial at Musselburgh (3rd in the final)
Special Contribution to Harness Racing
The winner of this category will be determined by the Awards Event Organisation Committee.
Horse of the Year will be voted on by the BHRC Committee from the winners of the above category and announced at the Awards Events.
Awards will be presented at the BHRC & STAGBI Annual Awards Event on Saturday 3rd February 2018
